Before 2018, Son La was a province that faced many difficulties in agricultural development. According to statistics, in 2020, the total production value of Son La agriculture will reach nearly 7,600 billion VND with nearly 80,000 hectares of fruit trees, the total fruit output will reach nearly 337,000 tons; in which, the plant area applied safe production process is more than 17,500 ha; granting 181 planting area codes for more than 4,700 hectares of fruit trees for export; 21 products were granted protection titles.
Besides the typical agricultural products of Son La that have been known to domestic consumers, many agricultural products of the province, including mangoes and longan, have conquered fastidious markets such as the US, Australia, and the EU. .
In addition to the criteria of ensuring food safety, Son La is interested in trade promotion, agricultural product promotion, market search and expansion. As a result, up to now, Son La's agricultural export market has been increasingly expanded to many countries.
Building high-tech agricultural areas is a goal that Son La pays special attention to. Ngoc Hoang Agricultural Cooperative (Mai Son district) is one of the typical agricultural production and business cooperatives of Son La province. Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Director of the cooperative is the pioneer in bringing the red flesh dragon fruit tree into cultivation, bringing high economic efficiency in Son La. Currently, Ngoc Hoang Agricultural Cooperative currently has 200 hectares of dragon fruit planted in Mai Son and Thuan Chau districts.
This year, Ngoc Hoang Agricultural Cooperative sold 1,500 tons of dragon fruit to provinces and cities across the country and exported 20 tons to Russia. In addition, the cooperative also brought samples to Dubai, France to introduce and market the products.

With a scientific approach and strict adherence to the process, the cooperative's dragon fruit garden has been assessed and granted the VietGAP Certificate by the Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Management Sub-Department of Region 1.

According to Mr. Vinh, cooperatives and businesses need synchronous investment, especially the preliminary processing and processing system for export to fastidious countries and markets.
